I know how it is this time of year every four years- you're either a fascist or a pinko commie. It's rough, it really is. But what if there were something better? What if there was a candidate who wasn't touting change, or claiming to be a maverick in the corrupted political arena? This shouldn't be a surprise, but I'm betting it is. There is another candidate, and his name is Bob Barr.A former Congressman from Georgia, Bob Barr has a lot of appeal. He is a liberty-loving man, no doubt, but his political platform planks are aligned more with state's rights issues than monochromatic statements about gay marriage and a failing economy. You want out of Iraq? Bob's on it. You're looking to legalize marijuana? Take it to your state. I know there are more than a few hunters here at Norbs, and Bob has something to tell you: "I oppose any law requiring registration of, or restricting the ownership, manufacture, or transfer or sale of firearms or ammunition to law-abiding citizens." As a card-carrying member of the NRA, I wholeheartedly agree with his position. You're tired of mixing religion and politics? So is Bob Barr. I can't help but feel like if more people knew about Bob Barr, that they might offer their support to him. His moderate position on issues is persuasive. Most citizens, I think, are looking for a candidate who isn't reaching far left or right for a solution. And for all the liberals out there- libertarians don't oppose welfare programs, we just want them proposed and carried out at the state and local levels. Here at St. Norbert, community service is stressed above much else- even above the importance of questioning our beliefs and values in order to grow as a reasonable individual. If people were willing to work at the local and state level, we wouldn't be begging the federal sphere of government to bail us out all the time. Communities must to provide for those in need- that's welfare!

In short, being a libertarian has its perks: you'd be a real maverick, you could have all your guns and shoot them too and you'd be a hero for helping the homeless and hungry. As for the Democratic and Republican parties - you can put this in your soon to be legal marijuana bong and smoke it.
