To me, April 15 is Tax Day. Some people, however, have coined it as "Taxed Enough Already" Day. Tea Parties took place all over the country, symbolizing the Boston Tea Party's notion of "taxation without representation." "Tea baggers" are the fiscally conservative individuals who are angry about high taxes, wasteful spending and socialism. They also dislike Obama, as he is the biggest socialist of all. That's the nice way of putting it.
"Tea baggers" are wealthy snobs unable to give up a few extra dollars so that the poor can have food, clothes and shelter. They consider this excessive spending. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor is simply an element of socialism. Socialism has actually done wonders for the country as far as social welfare programs are concerned (think Medicare and social security). Obama has actually lowered taxes that were raised by Bush, believe it or not, so clearly these "tea baggers" are remarkably educated individuals.
I couldn't agree more with Jon Stewart, who pointed out the irony, and stupidity, of Tea Parties: "So to protest wasteful spending you bought a million teabags? Are you protesting taxes or irony?"
These "tea baggers" aren't really angry about socialism or wasteful spending. If they were, they would deny their own social security benefits, and I'm sure none of them are about to do that. They're angry about losing the election. If you read up on Tea Parties you'll learn that many people complain about having a black man in the White House. They ignorantly blame him for high taxes when, in truth, Bush raised taxes (not to mention added, oh, only $4 billion to the national deficit). Tea Parties represent that these ill-informed and greedy individuals are still out there. And unfortunately, they're not alone.
"Tea baggers" have not only proven their own ignorance, but they've done so by presenting themselves as a bunch of greedy whiners. We live in a nation where being and staying informed is a responsibility as well as a benefit to the entire country. I respect their freedom to stupidity and freedom to protest, but I do NOT respect putting them together and representing any part of the U.S. population. Leave that to FOX News.
