  • Black History Month Celebration Features New and Returning Programs

     

    St. Norbert College celebrated Black History month this year with a variety of new and returning programs. From a movie about the Freedom Riders, a performance by a gospel choir, and a hip-hop performance about black history in America, February gives us an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of African-Americans and to recognize the central role of African-Americans in American history.

    With the higher temperatures and lack of snow in recent weeks, St. Norbert's Winter Carnival turned into more of a "Semi-Winter" Carnival. Outdoor events such as a snow sculpture contest and sled races had to be cancelled, while events such as broomball and a tug of war competition were moved inside. But this didn't stop eighteen teams of close to 200 St. Norbert students from participating in the week's events.

    Every May, the St. Norbert College community celebrates its graduating students and as part of the celebration, a keynote speaker is invited to commencement. This year, the college has invited Cardinal Francis George, the head of the Catholic Conference of Illinois and the Archbishop of Chicago to be the 2012 commencement speaker.
