Oswald Optimistic About Funding for Priorities

As the fall semester wraps up, St. Norbert College's Vice President of College Advancement Phil Oswald is crunching numbers. The Mulva Library is scheduled to open in Spring 2009, and the new sports complex and the St. Norbert Fund are now an increasing focus. (0) comments

Helping college-bound students and their families choose unique schools, the Colleges of Distinction guide included St. Norbert College in their 2008-2009 edition. The guide describes SNC as having the ability to create "well-rounded, sought-after graduates" through research opportunities, internships, study abroad programs, and on-campus organizations. Shack-a-Thon Shows the Face of Poverty

During Poverty Awareness Week at St. Norbert College, student organizations, students, faculty and staff members participated in Shack-a-thon, an event sponsored by the St. Norbert College Habitat for Humanity. The event took place to help create awareness and action about homelessness in the community and to help raise money for the De Pere IV build next fall. (0) comments

Market Crash Brings Reassuring Words, No Promises

St. Norbert College is one of the small, tuition-driven colleges affected by the current economic crisis. In the article, "Big Trouble, Potentially, for Little Colleges," from October 17, Jack Stripling wrote that "a subsection of cash-strapped private colleges could be in serious trouble, according to a report released by Moody's Investors Service. With a semester under their belt with new staff and a new direction, the department of Health and Wellness Services has a good amount of change to look back on. Last semester, the Times reported on the restructuring of the Student Life division, with a particular focus on the somewhat controversial personnel changes in the then Health and Counseling Centers. SNC Travels Around the World During International Education Week

As November drew to a close and Thanksgiving was only a week away, Beyond Borders, a diversity student organization that focuses on international causes, in collaboration with a number of college departments, planned three major events as a part of this year's International Education Week. During Poverty Awareness week, the ALIVE Team's Hunger banquet, gave students a view on the issues affecting the poor and hungry locally and globally. As attendees entered the banquet, they were given a card which explained which country they were from that evening and some basic information about the country. (0) comments

Poverty Awareness Week 2008

The Peace and Justice Center organized several events to raise student consciousness about poverty during Poverty Awareness Week (PAW). During the week, students were able to attend numerous speakers and film screenings as well as participate in multiple ongoing activities, like donating food, clothing, and Meal Plan dollars. Journey-Men Recovering From Loss of Advisor

Health and Wellness Services' choice not to renew three counselor's contracts last semester continues to affect the St. Norbert College community as the group Journey-Men recovers from the loss of their advisor, Bill Mathias. Mathias, a former counselor in Health and Wellness Services, left the college when his contract was not renewed last spring. (0) comments

After the release of US News and World Report's college rankings, St. Norbert College is dealing with a significant drop in rank-from 131st and an "A+ College for B Students" in 2008 to 149th in 2009. "It's a pretty negligible drop," said President Thomas Kunkel in an interview. (0) comments

Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson Speaks at SNC

Working on the Wisconsin Supreme Court since 1979, and as Chief Justice since 1996, Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson visited St. Norbert College to discuss campaigns, elections, and judicial independence. On Friday, November 14, 2008, Abrahamson explained what the Supreme Court does and how it decides cases to a group of interested students, faculty and staff. (0) comments

St. Norbert College, in collaboration with the St. Norbert College Killeen Chair of Theology and Philosophy, extended an invitation to Dr. Sahotra Sarkar, a professor at University of Texas-Austin, to discuss integrative biology, statistics, and philosophy for the Killeen Chair lecture. An email sent to the student body immediately before Thanksgiving break by the President of the Student Government Association (SGA), Travis Vanden Heuvel '09, announced the replacement of executive board members, Vice President for Student Concerns, Mike Lampe '09, and Secretary, Kalindi O'Brien '09, by Kelsey Kubale '11 and Michael Poradek '12, respectively.
