General Information
The St. Norbert Times is the official student-run College newspaper. It was founded in 1929 with a purpose of providing students, interested in writing and media, an opportunity to inform the college community of the most recent news from within and outside the college.
In its humble beginnings, as a ‘child’ of the earlier founded college yearbook, Des Peres, the Times started off with only a few interested students, an adviser, legendary Fr. Anselm M. Keefe, O.Praem., and a printing company based in De Pere. It supported itself through selling subscriptions to students and also the local community.
Today, the St. Norbert Times continues to be published bi-weekly, keeping its focus on the community and is free of charge for students, faculty and staff. The Times production as well as the organizational development are overseen by the Editor-in-Chief, and the newspaper itself is made possible through a hard work and commitment of many student staff members, as well as a number of contributors, generally members of the college community, and a number of the college’s alumni.
We always welcome new articles, ideas, and suggestions from all members of the St. Norbert Community and wider. If you would like to share any thoughts or submit an article, or would like to apply for any of the open staff positions, please feel free to e-mail us at: times@snc.edu, or visit our office, which is located on the third floor of the Ray Vanden Heuvel Family Campus Center.
Mission Statement:
The St. Norbert Times strives to be an informative student-run newspaper that acts as a balanced and accurate source of news about St. Norbert College, as well as the world around it. In the spirit of the Norbertine tradition and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, the Times will encourage and defend the principles of free inquiry, vigorous debate and the pursuit of truth.
In the spirit of the Norbertine tradition, we embrace the following credo:
"Almighty Father, the scriptures inform us that: 'The truth will set you free!'
Free from compromising principles
Free from being self-serving
Free from suspicion
Free from prejudice
Free from tolerance
Free from fear of retaliation
Free to be courageous and bold
Free to be honest and forthright."
“Bless those who speak, promote and value the truth. Bless those who have made and continue to make the St. Norbert Times a vehicle for honesty, truthful and courageous information, who make it a beacon for the enlightened progress of St. Norbert College, protecting it from half-truths and misinformation. Help the staff know that they are called and chosen to be that voice crying in the wilderness, especially for the students whom they enlighten and inform, helping them to take up the banner of truth courageously and openly for their welfare and to help St. Norbert College be the shining beacon it is called and destined to be.”
Rev. Rowland De Peaux, O.Praem.
