Coffee and Finals

With finals week upon us, students need something to keep them going so they can work hard on final projects and tests. Here are three coffee shops in De Pere and Green Bay that provide the atmosphere and caffeine necessary for finishing the last stretch of the semester.

1.  Ed's cafe: located in the Mulva library.

Ed's is an easy find, since it is located right on campus. Ed's brews Alterra coffee, which roasts and ships their coffee right out of Milwaukee. At Ed's a plain cup of coffee costs a little over a dollar. One of the main benefits of studying at Ed's is being able to do homework inside the library, and another benefit is being able to use the school computer network. Also, if one needs to do research on online databases, the school's Internet network allows access to those databases, where other places would not. Ed's works great for all studying occasions, group work, study groups, and working on papers. It is all there. Ed's cafe is open Mon. - Fri. 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., and its new hours, Sun. - Thurs. 5:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

2.  Kavarna: located at 143 North Broadway in Green Bay.

Kavarna provides the same Alterra coffee as Ed's, but there is a difference in location and menu. Unlike other coffee shops, Kavarna has a vegetarian menu, and a bottomless mug of coffee costs $2.50. Kavarna provides the same group atmosphere that any other coffee shop would, so a group can feel comfortable thinking out loud. An advantage to studying at Kavarna is the off campus location, so one is less likely to encounter a social distraction. Kavarna is open Mon. - Fri. 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sun. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

3.  Luna Cafe: located at 330 Main Avenue in De Pere.

Luna is located right around the corner from campus. Luna provides its own blends of coffee, roasted in store to provide the freshest cup possible. A cup of coffee costs ninety cents for St. Norbert students, and all drinks made behind the counter are ten percent off with student identification. Luna has breakfast on Sat. and Sun. mornings to combine with its semi-social atmosphere. Luna is open Mon. - Fri. 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sat. 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sun. 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Energy is needed to get through finals week efficiently, so try a coffee shop for the caffeine and also for the atmosphere.
