St. Norbert was host to its very own Community Band Concert that brought St. Norbert students, faculty, and De Pere, Green Bay and Appleton community members together for a night of music on Monday, Nov. 9 in Walter Theatre. The band started things off with a jumpy, energetic tune that got the audience tapping their feet to the beat and they continued on with that mood throughout the rest of the show. The second song they played was a set of four different tunes that ran together quite nicely.
Incorporating drums and cymbals into the songs let them build up to an ultimate climax. Each member played to their best ability and certainly did not disappoint. Each instrument came together in a way that made each song sound as if you were hearing it for the first time, even if you weren't.
The song "Airwaves" was one of my personal favorites as it had its own way of keeping you guessing. Starting off soft and low, the song quickly found an upbeat feeling and continued to grow as such throughout the piece.
Keeping the concert community oriented, the band made treats for the audience to enjoy at the reception after the show and held a raffle for community members who attended the concert, in which they gave away prizes such as chocolate, Green Bay Packer gear and gift cards to restaurants in the area. It certainly was a night of great music with good company that made the community members of the band, as well as in the audience, feel as if they were a part of something special.
