If you're already sick of Christmas music, or are just looking for something fresh to put on your iPod before the end of the year, here are a few singles to take a look at:
Party
Redd feat. Akon & Snoop Dogg "I'm Day Dreaming"
Akon and Snoop prove themselves in this single, a song that I can't listen to without dancing in my seat a little bit. It's a fun, upbeat and happy song that's definitely worth a listen.
Indie
Milk Carton Kids – "Michigan"
The album "Prologue" was released this summer, but I just heard of them over the last few weeks. The duo from California produces a simple, but beautiful sound – just two voices and two guitars. Check out this single (and the band) for some awesome, chill music.
Soft Rock
John Mayer "Let the Boy"
Okay, so this is a little bit of a tease. There is no real song out yet…only a 1:13 snippet of the last recorded song Mayer worked on before his surgery. The song is rumored to be for a show debuting Dec. 12, "Rollin' with Zach."The only legal way to listen to this song as of now is YouTube. But nevertheless, check it out if you're a fan.
Rap
Nicki Minaj – "Roman in Moscow"
To be honest, I'm a little disappointed in this song. I'm a huge fan of Nicki, but this song is just okay for me. The majority of the song is rapped from her alter ego Roman, so if you're a fan of when he comes to play, you'll love this. Otherwise, like I said, it's just okay. I'm hoping there will be better things to come from her album, which will be released early 2012.
Pop
Amy Winehouse feat. Nas – "Like Smoke"
Although she may be gone, her music remains. "Lioness: Hidden Treasures"was released early December and has a few singles that the artist left behind. "Like Smoke" has the same jazz undertone as most of Winehouse's music did; this song, along with the rest of the album, is a great memory of a talent lost.
