Mulva Lower Level Renovations

 

For those students who frequently use Mulva Library as a place to study and do homework, here is some exciting news: the lower level is being renovated to become an expanded student study space. The lower level renovations are set to be completed sometime in August, and will be open to the student body for use starting with the Fall school year.

What F******* Can Do for St. Norbert College

 

Around April 10 of my Senior year of high school, I donned a Mount Holyoke sweatshirt and went to school. I had just decided that I would attend college there, and my excitement was visible. Being an East Coast school, and relatively unknown to many of my classmates, no one really shared my excitement other than my two closest friends. I walked into my AP US History class and sat down. Other people in that class had decided where they were going as well, and I was excited to start discussing ‘the future’ with them. As we settled in and began the lecture, our teacher brought up the painting entitled “The Oxbow” by Thomas Cole. The painting is of the oxbow in the Connecticut River from the view of Mount Holyoke (the mountain, not the college).

    On April 27, the Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards took place, recognizing those who show selfless devotion to improving St. Norbert College and the greater community, as well as going above and beyond in appreciating human differences, establishing connections between students, faculty, and staff, and living the college’s mission-- communio.

    As the 2012-13 academic year comes to a close, many members of the SNC community are in the midst of preparing for the next academic year. Registration for classes just ended, summer internships and jobs are mostly in place, and students have been planning the rest of their four years at SNC with their advisors. One thing some first-year-students might be wondering as they contemplate next year is, what are the changes between your first and second years at SNC? Some sophomores around campus offered their ideas on this topic.

  • Why Economics Still Matter

     

    By now you have probably heard about the infamous Excel coding error in Reinhart & Rogoff’s working paper that argued for austerity when a country’s debt as a percentage of GDP reaches 90 percent. Their error was leaving out high-debt countries that experienced growth after World War II. Again, this paper had not been submitted for peer review, but it was used for indebted countries to cut government spending in order to facilitate economic growth. Their study did not explicitly say that there was a causal relationship between high debt and retracting economic growth, but they claimed that it was just a possibility.

              

Five Games to Catch Up on This Summer

“BioShock Infinite,” developed by Insomniac Games, is the third game in the BioShock first-person shooter series. Set in 1912, the game takes place in the airborne city of Columbia that is considered to be the pinnacle of America. The game’s story tackles several topics including American Exceptionalism as well as time paradoxes. It’s been getting pretty good reviews from critics and is available for any modern gaming platform.

SNC Finishes Strong at Private College Championship Against Lawrence

The past two weekends at Schneider Stadium have produced great results for the St. Norbert College men’s and women’s track and field teams. With only the conference championship remaining, the Green Knights have maintained a high level of competition throughout the 2013 outdoor season.
